TypeCon2004 attendees are treated to a variety of special events during the conference. There's always something going on at TypeCon! CLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR TYPECON2004 Tuesday, July 20 Spaced Out: Double Dutch, The Word of Image 7:00 pm, Morgan Auditorium, 491 Post Street (at Mason), San Francisco $10 AIGA members and TypeCon attendees/$15 non-members Dutch design is known worldwide for innovation in visual communication, and is an inspiring resource for international design audiences. Dutch designers are appreciated for their imaginative and intellectual approach in regard to their use of both images and text. Spaced Out is an evening dedicated to a renewed and re-established appreciation for the Dutch school of thought and style. Dutch designers Frans Oosterhof, Mieke Grritzen, Max Bruinsma, and Jan Middendorp present their work and their unique perspective on the convergence of design in the new global economy. Presented by the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, in association with SOTA and TypeCon2004 Wednesday, July 21 Type High: An Evening with Victor Moscoso and David Peters 7:00 pm, Julia Morgan Auditorium, 491 Post Street (at Mason), San Francisco Free and open to the public Victor Moscoso, on of the top psychedelic poster arts of the 60s-70s, is still going strong. He'll present on his work and tell stories from back in the day. David Peters will explore the amazing film titles from the same era. This event also features a sneak preview of the Typophile Film Festival and a meet-and-greet with Bay Area type foundries. Thursday, July 22 Big Night 7:00 pm, Hotel Nikko Ballroom included with TypeCon2004 admission The official conference kick-off, featuring the Award Night of Linotype's International Type Design Contest 2003, Sex and Type and Rock 'n' Roll with Erik Spiekermann, and the debut of the Typophile Film Festival. Linotype is hosting a reception to celebrate the award-winning designers and welcome TypeCon attendees to the big show. Festivities sponsored by Linotype Library Friday, July 23 SOTA Fundraiser Auction 7:00 pm, Hotel Nikko Ballroom included with TypeCon2004 admission Perfectly preserved antique type specimens, limited edition signed letterpress posters, T-shirts infused with designer DNA, and more rarities await. Dave Farey presides over the festivities - type designer, workshop leader, and speaker at TypeCon2004 by day, Dave also pounds the gavel to benefit SOTA's educational activities. Cocktail reception sponsored by FontShop International Saturday, July 24 Digikana 7:00 pm, Urbis Artium Gallery, 140 Second Street, 6th Floor San Francisco included with TypeCon2004 admission Dinner, cocktails, music, and a chance to strain your brain. This Gargantuan event features the (in)famous annual Type Quiz with typographic quiz masters Allan Haley and Will Powers. Fabulous prizes are waiting for those up to the challenge. Live music by boo hoo, Joachim Müller-Lancé's Japanese pop punk band, and tunes for dancing courtesy of a Punchcut/Typophile spinfest. Festivities sponsored by International Typeface Corporation Sunday, July 25 Type takes a Hike 7:00 pm, Sumner Stone's Alphabet Farm, Capay Valley included with TypeCon2004 admission Closing night festivities at Sumner Stone's orchard north of San Francisco. Shuttle buses will depart from the Nikko after the close of the main program. Time to unwind in an outdoor setting, with food, drink, and good friends.
